Gillibrand, Katko agree that testing is crucial to reopening the economy

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman John Katko held a virtual meeting to discuss their efforts to fight COVID-19.

While they may not have the same political views, the two agreed that the economy needs to get up-and-running – but when it’s safe to do so.

“We want to get the economy running, I do not think we can do that until we have testing,” said Senator Gillibrand.

“I agree, testing is critical to reopening our economy,” said Congressman Katko.

Soon after the meeting, Katko was on his way to vote for the latest relief package. “Testing is absolutely critical for kids going back to school and for people going back to work,” Katko added.

Dr. Robert Corona, the CEO of Upstate University Hospital was also part of Thursday’s virtual meeting. “To break the chain of transmission we must have ubiquitous testing and we have to test as many people as possible,” he explained.

He says antibody testing will also be crucial.
