Is it time to give up on having a public works department in Cayuga County?
That’s the question legislators in Cayuga are wrestling with at this point.
The Auburn Citizen reports that the Wayne and Means Committee passed a resolution to schedule a public hearing for March 24th at 6 p.m. on the matter.
The public hearing would happen right before the legislature’s full-meeting, at which point it could vote to break down the departments inside Public Works into individual components.
That’s the way Cayuga County navigated public works in the past. Highway, grounds, parks, and weights all merged into the Public Works Department in 2018.
