Yates murder suspect could take deal, or head to trial this month

The Branchport man accused of killing his mother is going to be back in court this month.

It’s unclear what will happen at that appearance.

Paul Khouzam could plead guilty at that time, or Yates County Judge Jason Cook could set a trial date.

Khouzam, 38, was charged with murder, burglary, criminal possession of a weapon, and cruelty to animals.

He’s accused of killing his mother, Dr. Magda Daoud, following an August 2018 incident.

It happened in Torrey, just north of Dresden at her Arrowhead Beach Road home. He had been arrested as a ‘mentally ill person’ by deputies in Branchport, but was released after being brought to the Soldiers & Sailor Memorial Hospital in Penn Yan.

At the time, Sheriff Ron Spike said Khouzam drove to his mother’s home during the early-morning hours, gained entry, and inflicted serious harm with a hammer and knife to the woman. She died three months later at a hospice facility.
