W-FL Friday: Wayne boys take over 1st in FL East with win over Newark; Goodness sinks Midlakes at buzzer to lift Pal-Mac in OT

It was a jam-packed Friday night across the Wayne-Finger Lakes boys and girls basketball leagues. There were a total of 16 games on tap.

The Wayne Eagles took over first place in the Finger-Lakes East after beating the Newark Reds by 17 points. Mason Blankenberg was just one rebound shy of recording a double-double. He finished with 12 points and 9 rebounds for the Eagles. Wayne heads into the Christmas break with a 5-0 record while Newark sits at 3-2.

One of the most hotly contested games of the night featured the Pal-Mac Red Raiders and the Midlakes Screaming Eagles. This game ended up going into overtime after Pal-Mac Junior, John Blazey hit a three-pointer at the end of regulation. Paul Goodness, a freshman at Pal-Mac, capped off his huge night with a game-winner at the buzzer. Goodness finished with a game-high 34 points.

On the girls side, the Waterloo Indians just continue to win. They picked up a road win against the Penn Yan Mustangs. The Indians are now 7-0 to start the season.
