Tompkins County sheriff’s deputies detained a man who brought a handgun and seven bullets to the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport.
The man was first stopped by a Transportation Security Administration officer who staffed the checkpoint X-ray monitor and detected the gun inside the man’s backpack on Wednesday morning, TSA officials said.
TSA officials then contacted deputies who confiscated the gun and detained the man for questioning, according to the TSA. The sheriff’s office is continuing to investigate the incident.
