More than 3,000 without power in Cayuga County, but won’t impact voting

NYSEG is reporting that more than 3,000 customers are without power on Election Day, but the reason for that outage is unclear.

Around 2 p.m. 3,141 customers in the middle of Cayuga County were without power.

NSYEG’s outage map indicated that the towns of Brutus, Mentz, Montezuma, and Throop were impacted. While the villages of Port Byron and Weedsport were both impacted by the outage.

The communities hardest hit by the outage were the Town of Mentz, and village of Port Byron and Weedsport. Both saw nearly every customer in each without power.

NYSEG estimated that power would be restored shortly after 4 p.m.

Board of Elections officials told The Citizen that the outage would not impact voting in those communities.

No additional information was immediately available.
