Shingles vaccine shortage leads to long wait lists, delays

If you’ve had chicken pox, then the shingles virus is already in you.

There is a vaccine for it, but most pharmacies have a waiting period of six months to a year, as the demand for it is too high for suppliers to keep up.

Greg Williams has dealt with shingles before. He said the diagnosis came as a surprise.

“It was such a small area,” he said. “I was like, ‘What is this?’”

A few years ago, strange spots were showing up on the back of his head. He went to his doctor, who told him he had shingles.

“I wasn’t getting it all over my body,” he said. “But it was scary to know the situation was out there, and it really should be elevated.”
