The Taste NY showcase, at the back of the State Fair Horticulture Building, is a destination for fairgoers who like free food samples. Whiskey, spices, hot sauce and maple products were among the products offering tastes on the Fair’s last day.
At one end of the tasting experience, the Nelson Farm Store also showcases and sells NY made food. And the products on its shelves have ties to the agribusiness incubator that’s helped hundreds take family recipes and more to store shelves.
Nelson Farms works in partnership with SUNY Morrisville, and offers one-stop help for product developers: recipes are checked for ‘shelf stability’ and ingredients are analyzed for caloric content and other label requirements. There’s also help getting the appropriate licenses and certifications If desired, the product can also be produced in a shared use kitchen.
