Gio Urshela atoned for an eighth-inning error by belting a game-tying home run into Monument Park in the ninth, and DJ LeMahieu delivered the game-winning hit as the Yankees rallied to defeat the Mariners, 5-4, on Tuesday evening at Yankee Stadium.
Trailing for most of the game and down to their final two outs, the Yankees battled back against Anthony Swarzak. Gleyber Torres laced a single to center field and Urshela, who learned earlier in the day that Yankees manager Aaron Boone planned to continue to start him regularly at third base, deposited his second home run over the center-field fence.
Cameron Maybin followed with a single that chased Swarzak, and after Roenis Elias retired Brett Gardner for the second out, LeMahieu laced the deciding single into right field to send Maybin sliding home safely. The Mariners challenged the call, which was quickly upheld, crediting the Yanks with their 13th victory in 17 games.
