Auburn Police Department patrol car crashes into vehicle parked in driveway

An Auburn Police Department patrol vehicle struck a car in Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann's driveway early Monday morning.

Around 6:50 a.m., APD officer Jacob Turner's vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and hit a vehicle parked in the driveway in the area of North Seward Avenue, APD Chief Shawn Butler reported Tuesday.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. There are no quotes for the damage yet, but Butler said the cars appeared to be extensively damage based on photos he saw.



"I'm glad the officer and nobody else was injured," Butler said, characterizing the incident as an "unfortunate accident."

Turner, who started at the department September 2017, was evaluated at a hospital after the accident — in part due to protocol since his airbag had deployed — but he sustained only minor injuries and is back at work, Butler said Tuesday.
