Seneca health building report to be unveiled Monday

The Seneca County Board of Supervisors’ Public Works Committee will meet at 5 p.m. Monday to discuss the status of two county buildings and a sewer-related issue.

Architect John Snyder of Ithaca will update the committee on his preliminary findings for necessary renovations to the Health Building at 31 Thurber Drive so it can continue to house the Department of Mental Health. The building originally housed the departments of Public Health and Mental Health. However, Public Health has moved into the former BonaDent building the county bought and renovated.

The plan was to locate Mental Health in the space formerly occupied by the Office for the Aging (OFA) on the first floor of the County Office Building, then sell the Thurber Drive building because it had been deemed too costly to renovate. However, there was pushback on moving Mental Health into the OFA space, prompting a second look at renovating the Thurber Drive structure, including the space vacated by Public Health.
