The Wayne Eagles virtually locked up the Finger Lakes East title, moving 2.5 games clear in the standings as we head into February, with an impressive 81-68 win at Geneva on Tuesday night. Wayne jumped out to a 27-8 lead after the first quarter and never looked back. Nick Carmichael scored 12 of his 22 points in the opening period and Bill Thomson added 8 more to spark the Eagles to the big first quarter lead. The rest of the night belonged to Logan Blankenberg who finished with a game-high 29 points and 15 rebounds. Geneva got a season-high 18 points from Nick Askin, while Reid Patchett and Christian Tapscott wound up with 14 and 13, respectively, for the Panthers. The game was streamed live on FingerLakes1.com and can be seen in it’s entirety below…
Also, on Tuesday night, Marcus Whitman hosted Red Jacket and proceeded to win their 12th straight game, 71-34, remaining undefeated in Finger Lakes West play. The game was the fifth straight and eighth overall in which Marcus Whitman has held an opponent under 40 points. Even more impressive, the Wildcats’ margin of victory over their last 6 games is 37, 31, 34, 34, 40 and 39. They are in action again on Thursday at South Seneca then travel to face Mynderse on Monday in a game that can be seen live on FingerLakes1.com.
In Wayne County, all eyes were on the Lyons-East Rochester game as Lyons has struggled in ER’s gym in recent history. Not Tuesday night, however, as Justice Smith scored 29 points to lead the Lions to an 81-44 victory to stay undefeated in Wayne County league play. East Rochester kept the game within reach before Lyons exploded for 30 points in the 3rd quarter while holding the Bombers to just 9. Four players were ejected from the ballgame (Xavier Reeves, Benji Kemp, Allen Otero & Chuck Domm) after a fight broke out in the second half.
