Matt Beadnell approved as Onondaga County comptroller

An accountant in the Onondaga County comptroller’s office was approved today to move up to the top job. Matt Beadnell, 30, of Camillus, was confirmed as comptroller by a 14-3 vote of the county Legislature.

He will serve through the end of this year, but must win election in November if he wants to keep the job for another four years. The comptroller’s job pays $105,381.

Beadnell has been a chief governmental accountant in the comptroller’s office since 2016. Before that, he worked as an auditor for five years at global firm KPMG. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Le Moyne College.

Beadnell, a Republican, was chosen by County Executive Ryan McMahon to fill out the unexpired term of Bob Antonacci, who resigned after winning election to the state Senate. Beadnell won confirmation votes from a solid majority of the Legislature, although three of the five Democrats voted against his appointment — Linda Ervin, Monica Williams and Chris Ryan.
