The Arc Ontario's 17th annual Turkey Trot Fun Run will start at 8:30 a.m. Thanksgiving Day at F.A. Baker Memorial Park in Canandaigua, raising money for programs serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and other challenges.
The Thursday, Nov. 26, fundraiser supports the nonprofit's work in Ontario County and surrounding communities, according to a news release. Registration is $20 through Nov. 25, increasing to $25 on the day of the event; children 12 and younger can register free.
The organization says online registration on Thanksgiving Day will remain available until 9 a.m.
Participants are also encouraged to bring canned food for The Spot and Treasure Trove or gently used winter coats for the Community Closet. Those donations support additional community needs alongside the event's fundraising for The Arc Ontario.
“This fun run is an incredible local tradition that brings our whole community together, but it's about more than crossing a finish line,” said John Astles, the organization's executive director and chief operating officer.
Astles said money raised and participation help support the agency's mission, and thanked people who run, walk and cheer at the event.
Founded in 1954, The Arc Ontario provides services for children and adults. Its programs include day services, transportation, residential services, career programs and clinical services. It is one of 35 chapters of The Arc New York.
