New York's annual holiday donation drive is accepting toys, coats and school supplies, with collection sites in Rochester, Syracuse, Hornell and other communities across the state.
Most locations will accept donations through Dec. 4, while participating Capital Region sites and mailed donations have a Dec. 11 deadline, Gov. Kathy Hochul's office announced.
The drive began Nov. 2. Organizers are seeking new, unwrapped toys and school supplies, along with new or gently used coats, to help families during the holiday season.
Regional collection sites include the New York State Police collection site at 1155 Scottsville Road in Rochester and the Senator John Hughes State Office Building at 333 E. Washington St. in Syracuse.
Donations also can be dropped off at the Henderson-Smith State Office Building, 107 Broadway in Hornell; the Binghamton State Office Building, 44 Hawley St.; and the Utica State Office Building, 207 Genesee St.
Other announced upstate sites include the Homer Folks Facility, 28 Hill St. in Oneonta; the Dulles State Office Building, 317 Washington St. in Watertown; and Electric Tower, 535 Washington St. in Buffalo.
The Capital Region has an extended collection window through Dec. 11 at participating state buildings. Donors should consult the state's location information for the most convenient collection site.
People who prefer to ship items can send donations to NYS Holiday Drive, Empire State Plaza, P1 South Dock J, Albany, NY 12242. Shipped donations also are accepted through Dec. 11.
The collection is intended to provide winter clothing, gifts and supplies to New Yorkers in need. The state announced the same campaign in English and Spanish.
A state holiday-drive information page provides further details. The governor's announcement lists collection locations and deadlines.
