New York will provide $10 million to help redevelop two historic hangars at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, according to the governor’s office.
The grant will support the first phase of work on Hangars 3 and 4 through the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy.
The project will restore hangar interiors for year-round public use, including community and educational programs.
Planned uses also include workforce development, technological innovation and park programming.
The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York will administer the grant.
Floyd Bennett Field was New York City’s first municipal airport and is now part of the National Park Service’s Gateway National Recreation Area.
The announcement did not provide an opening date for the restored spaces.
