Gene and Faith Tam will receive Waterloo Rotary's 2026 Service Above Self Award at a public dinner Nov. 16, recognizing decades of volunteer work in the community.
The dinner begins at 6 p.m. at the Lux Hotel on Route 414. Tickets cost $35, and reservations are due Nov. 8, according to Waterloo Rotary.
Reservations can be made through Ellen Hughes at esqh1314@gmail.com or by texting 315-521-6553. Meal choices are roast pork with mango-apple chutney, baked haddock Florentine with lemon-garlic spinach, or grilled chicken with an apple, walnut and cranberry glaze.
The Tams moved to Waterloo from Santa Rosa, California, in 1977. Faith, a Red Creek native, operated a floral business from their home. Gene worked in service and sales at LeBrun Nissan for 20 years and helped with the floral business.
Faith has served on the Waterloo Education Foundation board since 1999 and volunteered with Scouts. Gene served on the Little League board and is a former Lions Club member.
Their shared volunteer work includes Waterloo In Bloom, which they joined in 2002, Celebrate Commemorate Memorial Day, Real Christmas, the Hall of Fame and local schools. They also hosted exchange visitors from Japan, Rotary said.
