Two Waterloo police officers spotted a house fire and helped a resident get out while calling for firefighters, according to the Waterloo Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched to 9 Fayette St. at approximately 1:32 a.m. The department said crews quickly brought the fire under control.
The department credited Officer Robson and Sgt. Webb with noticing the fire, getting the resident out of the house and radioing dispatch to summon help.
“Their actions may very well have saved a life today,” the department said in its Facebook post.
Firefighters from Fayette, Seneca Falls, Geneva, Junius, Border City and Oaks Corners assisted Waterloo. North Seneca Ambulance, Seneca County codes personnel and NYSEG gas and electric crews also helped at the scene.
The fire department did not report a cause, the extent of damage or whether anyone was injured.
