Mets pitcher Tylor Megill completed his Tommy John rehabilitation in mid-October and has begun his offseason throwing program as he prepares to compete for a spot in 2027.
Megill finished his rehab work with live bullpen sessions in Port St. Lucie, Florida, throwing his fastball at 96-97 mph and reaching 98, MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported Thursday.
He underwent surgery in September 2025. His return will put him in a crowded group of rotation candidates that includes Nolan McLean, Christian Scott and Zac Thornton.
The Mets also expect to pursue starting pitching this offseason. Megill has a minor league option remaining, which could put him at Triple-A Syracuse to begin the year, according to the report.
Between completing rehab and beginning his throwing program, Megill traveled to Florida to watch his brother Trevor pitch for Milwaukee in the World Series. He attended Games 3 and 4, then watched from home as Trevor recorded the final six outs of the Brewers’ championship-clinching win.
