Bo Bichette will stay with the New York Mets for the second season of his three-year, $126 million contract, MLB.com reported Thursday, citing a source.
The decision guarantees the third baseman $42 million in 2027. Bichette can opt out again after next season under the same terms, according to MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo.
Leaving now would have triggered a $5 million buyout. Instead, the 28-year-old is set to return alongside shortstop Francisco Lindor on the left side of the infield.
Bichette joined the Mets after seven seasons with Toronto, where he was a two-time All-Star. His first year in Queens included a slow start before his production improved.
From June 11 through the rest of the season, he hit .285 with a .337 on-base percentage and a .442 slugging percentage, the report said.
New York still has decisions to make elsewhere on the roster. DiComo identified the rotation and bullpen as the Mets’ main offseason needs.
