Cornell men's soccer will visit Yale on Saturday with an Ivy League championship already secured and another milestone within reach. A victory would give head coach John Smith his 100th career win and keep the Big Red unbeaten in conference play.
The nationally ranked No. 14 Big Red plays in New Haven, Connecticut, on October 31 at 3 p.m., according to Cornell's preview. Cornell is 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League after a 3-1 win over Dartmouth clinched the title.
Yale is 4-6-3 overall and 2-1-2 in the conference. Its eight points put it alongside Penn in second place, while Cornell has 15 with two league matches remaining.
Cornell has won three straight, outscoring Princeton, Bucknell and Dartmouth 10-2. The Big Red has won eight of its last nine countable matches, with an October 13 loss at Colgate the only defeat in that stretch.
Captain Connor Miller assisted on all three goals against Dartmouth to break Cornell's career assists record. He leads the team with 16 points on four goals and eight assists, six of them coming in his last four appearances.
Freshman Andrew Miles has scored in three consecutive matches and shares second on the team in points with senior Adam Schaban. Each has four goals and three assists. Junior Kasper Wollstein leads Cornell with five goals despite coming off the bench in all nine appearances.
Defender Aidan Martin scored in consecutive games against Bucknell and Dartmouth, including the game-winner in the title-clinching match. Midfielder Dominik Kolbl added his first goal of the season against Dartmouth.
Thirteen Cornell players have scored, and 10 have multiple goals. The Big Red has 33 goals in 13 matches, averaging 2.54 goals and 17.5 shots. It has outscored Ivy opponents 15-6 while also winning one-goal road matches at Brown and Princeton.
Freshman goalkeeper Reuben Clarson is 3-0 in three starts with a 0.70 goals-against average, 11 saves and an .846 save percentage. He made five saves against Dartmouth.
Yale is unbeaten in four matches and most recently beat Columbia 1-0 on Angelo Zhu's first-half goal and Josh Linebaugh's shutout. The Bulldogs are 2-2-2 at home, while Cornell is 5-3 on the road.
Yale leads the all-time series 38-24-14. Cornell won last year's meeting 3-1 in Ithaca but has not won in New Haven since 2015, going 0-5-1 in its last six visits.
Cornell closes the regular season at home against Columbia on November 7 at 3 p.m. It will then host Ivy tournament semifinals November 12 and the championship November 15.
