MRB Group reports $66.4 million in grants for communities in 2026

Communities working with MRB Group have secured more than $66.4 million in grant funding so far this year, including water and sewer projects in Tyre, Fayette, Gorham and other Finger Lakes municipalities, the Rochester-based firm announced.

The total of $66,422,711 includes awards for infrastructure, public services and community facilities, according to an Oct. 28 news release from MRB Group. Recent water and wastewater awards account for nearly $24.6 million across five communities.

Water and sewer projects receive funding

Four municipalities received a combined $20,574,219 through New York's Water Infrastructure Improvement program, known as WIIA. MRB Group said its Grant Services Department assisted the communities with their applications.

The town of Tyre received $784,000 for Water District No. 3. The town of Fayette received $4,914,469 for Water District No. 8, Phase 2, while the town of Gorham received $5 million for water system improvements.

The village of Avon received $9,875,750 for wastewater treatment plant improvements. Its award came through the enhanced WIIA program, which the firm said provides a greater level of funding than a standard award.

Separately, the town of Locke received $3,995,298 through the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act for its water project. Together with the four state awards, that brings the five projects' funding to $24,569,517.

The grants support work intended to improve water and wastewater systems while reducing the amount municipalities must finance through local resources, according to the firm.

Other awards support emergency services and community facilities

The village of Trumansburg received $1 million through the state's Local Government Efficiency program for a new emergency medical services building.

The town of Sennett received $1 million through the Northern Border Regional Commission's Public Infrastructure program for Water District No. 8. The town of Varick received another $1 million through that program for the Cayuga Lake Sewer District.

The Waterloo Library & Historical Society also received $370,000 related to improvements to its facility, according to the release.

MRB Group President and CEO Ryan Colvin said grants can determine whether communities move ahead with needed work.

“Securing grant funding can make the difference between a project remaining on a community's wish list and becoming a reality,” Colvin said.

The firm's Grant Services Department works with municipalities and organizations to identify funding opportunities, prepare applications and administer grants. It coordinates that work with MRB Group's engineering, architecture, planning and municipal services staff.

MRB Group provides engineering, architecture, local government, economic development and grant services, with offices in New York, South Carolina and Texas.
