A Moravia woman was convicted of obstructing governmental administration after a bench trial stemming from a 2025 encounter with state troopers at a storage facility in Locke, the Cayuga County District Attorney's Office said.
Locke Town Justice Jeffrey Saeli found Kalika Currie, 43, guilty of one count of second-degree obstructing governmental administration, a Class A misdemeanor, following an Oct. 14 trial.
Troopers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle at 1444 State Route 38 on July 27, 2025, according to the district attorney's office. They found Currie in a running vehicle beside a storage unit she rented.
During the encounter, Currie repeatedly questioned whether the troopers were police officers and did not follow their directions, prosecutors said. She later tried to run away, and troopers caught and handcuffed her, according to the office.
The court found that Currie had willfully disobeyed lawful orders while the troopers were performing their duties, the district attorney's office said. The conviction is under New York Penal Law Section 195.05.
Assistant District Attorney Amber Benjamin and Mark Moody, special counsel to the district attorney, handled the prosecution.
Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 2. Currie faces a maximum of 364 days in county jail.
