Moravia man charged with failing to report address change

A Moravia man was arrested on a felony charge Wednesday after a Cayuga County Sheriff's Office investigation found he had moved from his registered address without reporting the change, authorities said.

The Sheriff's Office identified the man as Steven Tomlin, 49, and said he was charged with failing to report a change of address under the state's Sex Offender Registration Act.

Deputies said they began checking Tomlin's address on Jan. 12 and later obtained an arrest warrant. Tomlin is designated a Level 3 sex offender under New York's registration law, according to the release.

The Sheriff's Office said Tomlin had moved out of his registered address months before the investigation without updating it. It did not give a new address or the date of the move.

A St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputy located Tomlin on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and took him into custody, according to the release. Tomlin was transported to the Cayuga County Public Safety Building, processed and arraigned in centralized arraignment court.

The Sheriff's Office said he was remanded to the Cayuga County Jail without bail. The release did not provide a date for his next court appearance.
