Two ticketed after used cooking oil spill in New Rochelle

State environmental officers ticketed two people after finding about 550 gallons of used cooking oil in a van and a spill onto the ground in New Rochelle, according to an Oct. 20 Department of Environmental Conservation report.

New Rochelle police contacted DEC on Sept. 28 after receiving a report that two people had stolen used cooking oil and transported it in the van.

Environmental conservation officers found two oil containers in the back of the vehicle and a significant amount of oil discharged from it, DEC said.

The driver and passenger received tickets that included unlawful disposal of solid waste and depositing a noisome and unwholesome substance on a public highway.

Their cases are returnable to New Rochelle City Court.

Police took the driver into custody on a New Jersey warrant to await extradition, according to DEC.

The van was impounded.
