Six anglers ticketed after nighttime Salmon River patrol

State environmental officers issued nine after-hours fishing tickets to six anglers during a patrol along the Salmon River in Oswego County, according to an Oct. 20 Department of Environmental Conservation report.

The Oct. 3 patrol used drones equipped with night imaging to watch areas around the river during the annual salmon spawning run.

On the Salmon River, salmon fishing is prohibited from a half-hour after sunset until a half-hour before sunrise, DEC said.

Officers responded to several complaints about fishing after hours.

Two anglers also received additional tickets for fishing without a license and unlawfully using treble hooks to take fish.

DEC said the drones helped officers monitor activity in the dark and cover wooded areas around the river.

The tickets are returnable to Albion Town Court.
