A Meridian man faces a misdemeanor charge of endangering the welfare of a child after Cayuga County sheriff's deputies said he struck a child in the face with an open hand during an Oct. 4 incident in the village.
The Sheriff's Office identified the man as Christopher Raymer, 34, and said the child had minor marks and bruising.
Deputies responded to Meridian at about 5:45 p.m. that day to investigate a report of child abuse, according to an Oct. 20 news release.
Raymer later turned himself in and was issued an appearance ticket for Cato Town Court on Nov. 2, the office said.
Anyone with information about the incident can call the Sheriff's Office at 315-253-1222.
