A group of Cato-Meridian students is turning a community race into a platform for mental health awareness among young athletes.
The school’s National Honor Society will host “Morgan’s Message,” a 5K run/walk and kids’ butterfly run on Saturday, May 2 at Cato-Meridian Junior/Senior High School.
The event is designed to support mental health initiatives for student-athletes, aligning with the broader mission of Morgan’s Message, a national organization focused on eliminating stigma and promoting mental wellness in sports.
Race-day activities will include a traditional 5K for runners and walkers, along with a shorter “Kids Butterfly Run” aimed at younger participants. Organizers say the event is open to the public and intended to bring together students, families, and the broader community.
Registration is set at $20 for the 5K and $5 for the kids’ run. Check-in and start times are scheduled for the morning, with activities beginning around 8:30 to 9 a.m. at the school campus.
Organizers say the goal is not only to raise funds, but also to spark conversations about mental health challenges faced by student-athletes and encourage greater support within schools and communities.
