A second measles case in a Cayuga County resident has been confirmed through laboratory testing, the county Health Department announced Friday.
The case follows the county's first confirmed case, reported Sept. 8, and other cases recently identified across Central New York and the Finger Lakes.
The department is urging residents to get vaccinated against measles, saying two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine, known as MMR, are safe and effective at preventing infection.
Most primary care offices offer the vaccine, according to the department.
Residents who do not have a health care provider or health insurance can receive vaccinations by appointment through the Cayuga County Health Department.
Anyone with questions about measles, the MMR vaccine or testing can contact their health care provider or call the department at 315-253-1560.
