RG&E customers can get help enrolling in utility-bill assistance programs Monday, Oct. 19, at the Father Tracy Advocacy Center in Rochester.
RG&E is partnering with the center for the event, which runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 821 N. Clinton Ave., with parking available, according to a news release. Company representatives will help eligible customers explore affordability programs and offer resources for managing energy use before the winter heating season.
Help for low- and moderate-income households
The enrollment help includes the Energy Affordability Program, known as EAP, and the Enhanced Energy Affordability Program, or EEAP. Both are intended to reduce the burden of energy bills, but they serve different groups of customers.
EAP is designed for low-income customers and accepts enrollment year-round. Customers receiving Federal Public Housing Assistance, Home Energy Assistance Program benefits, SNAP, Supplemental Security Income or other accepted assistance may automatically qualify, RG&E said.
EEAP is intended for eligible moderate-income households that do not qualify for, or are not currently enrolled in, any of the assistance programs accepted by EAP. It provides credits directly to customers' energy bills.
HEAP expected to open Nov. 2
The federally funded Home Energy Assistance Program helps eligible households cover energy costs. RG&E said HEAP is expected to open Nov. 2.
