Sustainable Finger Lakes will host an online discussion Oct. 20 about how new power sources connect to New York's electric grid. The Ithaca-based group's “Future Proofing the NY Grid — Part II” webinar is scheduled for noon to 1:15 p.m., with registration available through its event page.
The organization's announcement says the discussion will focus on limited grid connection points for solar, wind and battery-storage projects. It follows a June session about electric prices and grid reliability.
Marguerite Wells, executive director of the Alliance for Clean Energy New York, and Noah Ginsberg, executive director of the New York Solar Energy Industries Association, are the scheduled speakers. Both organizations work on state energy policy and have participated in proceedings involving how new generation connects to the grid.
The discussion will examine how existing connections are allocated as older power plants age and new projects seek access. Sustainable Finger Lakes says the question matters to the reliability of the grid and the cost of delivering power to homes and businesses.
Readers can register for the webinar online. The event runs from noon to 1:15 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20.
