Wood Library in Canandaigua will host a free Oct. 28 presentation examining gender and sexuality through historical, biological, genetic and social perspectives. “Beyond Two Boxes: Examining the Complexities of Gender and Sexuality” is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library's Hamlin Room at 134 N. Main St., and advance registration is required.
Scott Fearing, a longtime LGBTQ+ educator and activist, will lead the interactive session, according to a news release. The library's event listing confirms the presentation, date, time and location.
Fearing previously served as director of education and executive director of the Out Alliance, formerly the Gay Alliance of the Genesee Valley. Before working in the Rochester area, he coordinated education for a statewide LGBTQ+ organization in Minnesota.
His community activism began in the early 1980s with HIV/AIDS prevention and awareness. Over four decades, his educational work has included corporations, health centers, college campuses and social-service organizations across the country.
The presentation is intended to help attendees consider how scientific and social understandings of gender and sexuality can affect individuals, families, workplaces and communities.
Registration is required through the Wood Library event page and closes at 6 p.m. Oct. 28, when the program begins. For more information, contact the library at 585-394-1381 or alawrence@owwl.org.
