Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Greg Rousseau has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 5 after his game-changing field-goal block helped secure a 37-34 overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football.
With Los Angeles positioned for a potential victory on a 48-yard field-goal attempt in overtime, Rousseau broke through the protection and deflected the kick before it could reach the uprights. The block preserved Buffalo’s chances, allowing the offense to return to the field with an opportunity to win.
The Bills made the most of that second chance. Kicker Tyler Bass drilled a 45-yard field goal moments later to finish off the victory and improve Buffalo’s record to 4-1.
Rousseau’s play also placed him in rare company in NFL history. It was the first blocked field goal in overtime since Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T. J. Watt blocked one against Cleveland on September 9, 2018. It also marked the first overtime field-goal block to directly set up a victory since San Francisco’s Dontae Johnson blocked a kick against St. Louis on January 3, 2016.
The moment was another example of Rousseau’s knack for disrupting kicks. He previously blocked a field goal for Buffalo on October 13, 2025, against the Atlanta Falcons during a Monday night game, making him responsible for the Bills’ most recent field-goal blocks.
Rousseau has also been a major contributor to Buffalo’s defensive success this season. His six sacks rank second in the league, while his three forced fumbles are tied for the most among defensive players.
