Los Angeles Rams offensive lineman Alaric Jackson has been suspended for two games after punching Buffalo Bills outside linebacker Bradley Chubb following Sunday’s overtime thriller, the NFL announced Tuesday.
Jackson will miss the Rams’ upcoming matchups against the Arizona Cardinals and Las Vegas Raiders, leaving Los Angeles without its starting tackle for two games.
The incident occurred after Buffalo’s 37-34 overtime victory, when Jackson was exchanging jerseys with Bills defensive tackle Deone Walker. Chubb approached the conversation and said something toward Jackson, sparking a verbal confrontation that quickly escalated.
After Chubb put a finger in Jackson’s face, the Rams lineman threw a punch that connected with the Bills linebacker and knocked his hat off. Players intervened to separate the two, with Walker pulling Chubb away from the altercation.
Chubb later described the confrontation as an emotional response to a tightly contested game. He also acknowledged that he chose not to retaliate after Jackson threw the punch, explaining that his teammates held him back.
The reported suspension comes as the NFL continues to discipline players involved in on-field and postgame physical confrontations.
San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw recently received a one-game suspension after headbutting Seattle Seahawks linebacker Ernest Jones IV during a Week 5 matchup. Greenlaw, who was wearing a helmet, struck Jones, who was not wearing one, during the second quarter.
