Ithaca appoints Dominick Recckio as permanent city manager

Dominick Recckio has been appointed Ithaca’s permanent city manager after serving in the acting role since Jan. 1.

The appointment took effect Oct. 8 following confirmation by Common Council, according to a city announcement.

Recckio joined Ithaca as deputy city manager in December 2024 after serving as Tompkins County’s director of communications. He is a graduate of Ithaca College’s Park School of Communications.

As city manager, Recckio oversees the city’s administration and daily operations, implements policies established by Common Council and supports city departments and employees.

Mayor Robert Cantelmo credited Recckio with filling senior staff positions and carrying out policy directives aimed at addressing the city’s infrastructure and financial challenges.

“His collaborative approach, steady judgment, and commitment to public service make him the right person to lead the city administration,” Cantelmo said.

The mayor also thanked council members for confirming the appointment.

The city said Recckio’s work as acting manager included guiding daily operations, supporting employees and advancing initiatives intended to strengthen municipal services.

Recckio said the permanent appointment gives him an opportunity to continue that work alongside city employees, the mayor and Common Council.

“It has been an honor to serve as Acting City Manager, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the Mayor, Common Council, City staff, and the community,” he said.

Recckio said his focus remains on a city government that is responsive to residents and effective in delivering services.
