Hobart and William Smith Colleges ranked seventh nationally for both alumni network and internship access in The Princeton Review’s 2027 Best Value Colleges lists, according to an announcement from the Geneva colleges.
The colleges also ranked sixth on the publication’s list of schools where students say they can make an impact. HWS was one of 209 institutions selected for the Best Value Colleges list from more than 650 considered.
The Princeton Review bases its alumni-network ranking on students’ ratings of alumni activity and visibility on campus. The internship ranking reflects students’ assessments of how accessible internship placements are, according to HWS.
How the value list is compiled
The publication evaluates colleges using more than 40 measures, including academics, cost, financial aid, student debt, graduation rates, career placement and alumni salaries. HWS received a return-on-investment rating of 88 out of 99.
That rating draws on institutional and student surveys and career and salary statistics from the U.S. Department of Education’s College Scorecard. The rankings describe student assessments and compiled measures, rather than a guarantee of an internship or career outcome for any individual student.
Other recent changes at HWS
The colleges said they rose 13 places in a separate U.S. News & World Report ranking. HWS also reported a 20% increase in first-year enrollment for the Class of 2030.
HWS pointed to construction of the Fish Center for the Sciences and creation of the Melly Institute for Business, Innovation and Leadership as other recent developments. Those projects were not presented as factors in The Princeton Review’s alumni or internship rankings.
The Princeton Review’s 2027 lists and methodology provide the basis for the newly announced rankings.
