Cornell women’s volleyball continued its strong start in conference competition Friday night, earning a straight-set victory over Dartmouth at Newman Arena.
The Big Red won the opening set 25-12 before delivering an especially dominant performance in the second, limiting the Big Green to eight points in a 25-8 decision. Cornell finished the sweep with a 25-15 win in the third set, improving to 8-5 overall and 4-0 in Ivy League play.
Cornell’s offense was highly efficient, producing 42 kills while hitting .486 as a team. The Big Red also recorded six service aces, eight blocks and 45 digs, holding Dartmouth to a .022 hitting percentage.
The second set proved to be Cornell’s most impressive stretch. The Big Red registered 17 kills with just one attack error, hitting .667 while restricting Dartmouth to four kills.
Mackenzie Parsons paced Cornell with 14 kills and a .706 hitting percentage, adding a service ace and a block. Jaida Sione contributed 11 kills, four digs and two blocks, while Ava Bogan recorded seven kills and a team-high six blocks.
BILLS GAME WEEK: Buffalo heads to Los Angeles for Monday Night Football matchup with Rams (preview) Mary Wolcott orchestrated the attack with 32 assists, two service aces and six digs. Kiran Rio led the Big Red with 11 digs and added two kills and a service ace. Sydney Zanca chipped in five kills without committing an attack error, finishing with a .556 hitting percentage.
Cornell controlled the opening set with an early six-point run and carried that momentum into the second, building a commanding advantage through aggressive attacking and defensive pressure. The Big Red maintained control in the final set, pulling away late to secure the sweep.
Dartmouth dropped to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in Ivy League play.
Cornell returns to Newman Arena Saturday, October 10, to host Harvard. First serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
