Auburn man charged with rape in case involving 14-year-old

An Auburn man was charged with second-degree rape Monday after a Cayuga County Sheriff's Office investigation into a reported sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl.

The sheriff's office identified the defendant as Luke Cross, 20. Investigators opened the case in March after receiving allegations that Cross, then 19, had a sexual relationship with the girl at an Auburn residence, according to an Oct. 7 arrest release.

Cross was arrested Oct. 5 and charged with second-degree rape, a Class D felony, the sheriff's office said.

He appeared in centralized arraignment court, where bail was set at $1,500 cash or a $2,500 bond. The court also issued a full stay-away order of protection for the girl, according to the release.

Cross posted bail and was released from the Cayuga County Jail. He is expected to appear in Auburn City Court at a later date that the release did not specify.
