The Ontario County Historical Society has asked Canandaigua to increase its annual payment from $13,300 to $20,000 in 2027, according to the Finger Lakes Times.
The society cares for nine paintings that Canandaigua native Frank Hutchens left to the city in 1937.
Director Ulana Fuller told the City Council’s Finance Committee that rising costs and years of inadequate funding prompted the request.
She said the paintings are kept in secure, climate-controlled storage when they are not on display.
The committee will consider the request while preparing the 2027 city budget.
