Cayuga Community College student Maddox Fraher is spending her final semester learning two sides of broadcasting: hosting shifts at the college radio station and running replays for televised high school football games.
Fraher, a sophomore in Cayuga’s Media Arts: Media Communications program, expects to graduate in December. She joined the college’s Radio and Television Guild after enrolling in spring 2025 and later began working at WDWN, the student-run radio station, where she now has shifts three days a week.
Fraher said the station has given her a manageable introduction to the routines and equipment used in radio. She also completed an internship with Tour Cayuga, the agency that promotes Cayuga County tourism, where she used her creative and production skills.
Her work on high school football broadcasts began last fall alongside Cayuga faculty, staff, students, graduates and freelance crew members. The weekly games air on Spectrum. After learning different tasks during her first season, Fraher moved into a dedicated replay role this fall.
“We’ve only done a few games so far, but I’ve improved my abilities so much,” she said in a college profile.
Fraher has not settled on what comes after graduation. She is considering both a bachelor’s degree and a job in media.
