A resident jumped from a second-story window to escape a fire Tuesday afternoon at Garden Apartments in Canandaigua, according to the city Fire Department.
Firefighters responded at about 12:55 p.m. Sept. 29 to Building 104 at 223 Bristol St. They saw smoke coming from a second-story apartment window and declared a working fire. The resident was taken by Canandaigua Emergency Squad to F.F. Thompson Hospital for evaluation. The department did not provide an update on the person’s condition.
Firefighters extinguished the fire, which was confined to the apartment where it started. During a search, they rescued two dogs and turned them over to the Ontario County Humane Society. The department said the dogs remain in the society’s care.
The apartment directly below sustained minor water damage.
The Canandaigua fire and police departments are investigating the fire’s cause and origin. No cause had been announced as of the department’s Sept. 29 release.
