Corn harvest is underway in Cayuga County, and the Sheriff’s Office is urging drivers to slow down as more tractors, choppers, trucks and other slow-moving farm equipment use local roads.
Drivers should be patient when approaching farm vehicles, which may be traveling only a short distance, the office said. They should pass only when it is legal and safe to do so.
Large equipment may need extra room to make wide turns. The Sheriff’s Office also warned drivers to stay out of operators’ blind spots and use particular caution on hills, curves and narrow country roads.
“A little patience can prevent a serious crash,” the office said in its harvest-season advisory.
