Seneca Dairy Systems plans to give away 1,000 chicken barbecue dinners to residents of Romulus, Varick and Ovid on Saturday, Oct. 10, while supporting the Romulus Fire Department through the purchase.
The free meal distribution will begin at 11 a.m. at the fire department, 2010 Cayuga St. in Romulus, according to a release submitted by the company. Dinners will be available while supplies last.
Seneca Dairy said it is buying all 1,000 dinners and that the proceeds from that purchase will benefit the fire department. The meals are free to residents of the three communities; the release does not describe a separate donation or fundraising charge for people who receive them.
Each person may receive one dinner and must be present to get it. The company said meals cannot be reserved or held in advance, so residents planning to attend should arrive while the supply remains available.
The giveaway is intended as a thank-you to local families, farmers, businesses, first responders and neighbors, the company said. Earl Martin of Seneca Dairy said the meal is also a way to support the fire department as the company expands its involvement in communities around its Romulus location.
Seneca Dairy Systems manufactures and supplies equipment for the dairy industry in the Finger Lakes. The company did not specify in the release how the meals will be prepared or whether any other activities are planned at the fire department.
The giveaway starts at 11 a.m. Oct. 10 at 2010 Cayuga St. in Romulus. It is limited to residents of Romulus, Varick and Ovid, with one dinner per person, in person, while supplies last.
