William Smith volleyball remained unbeaten in conference play on Saturday afternoon, sweeping Vassar 3-0 at Bristol Gymnasium to improve to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in Liberty League play.
The Herons controlled the match from the service line, recording a season-high 15 aces while limiting Vassar to just two. William Smith also finished with advantages in kills, 44-35, assists, 43-33, and digs, 53-46. Vassar held a narrow 4-3 edge in blocks.
Maren Hunt led William Smith offensively with 10 kills without an error, hitting .667, while Cassidy Breuer also recorded 10 kills and added eight digs and five aces. Senya Dorny contributed nine kills while hitting .571, along with three digs, two aces and one block.
Emily Fulton added eight kills, 10 digs, one block and one ace, while libero Kali Vanderhoof paced the Herons defensively with 16 digs.
William Smith took control immediately, posting 17 kills in the opening set while limiting Vassar to eight. The Herons won 25-14 behind five kills from Breuer.
Vassar pushed William Smith in the second set, but the Herons overcame a late deficit and secured a 25-23 victory after back-to-back aces from Vanderhoof.
William Smith completed the sweep with a 25-20 third-set victory. Hunt and Dorny each recorded four kills in the final set as the Herons closed out the match.
Delainy Williams finished with a match-high 40 assists, 11 digs and two aces. Vanderhoof and Breuer each recorded five aces as William Smith reached 15 for the match.
Vassar was led by Holland Kaplan with 12 kills and Maura McAusland with nine.
William Smith returns to action Tuesday, September 29, traveling to Cortland for a non-conference matchup against SUNY Cortland at 6 p.m.
