Drivers heading to the Naples Grape Festival this weekend are being urged to plan ahead as a Route 21 closure in South Bristol is expected to push additional traffic onto the primary detour route.
The festival runs Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Naples. The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office and town of Naples are warning visitors that State Route 21 is closed between Griesa Hill Road and State Route 64 for a culvert replacement project.
Motorists traveling through that area are being directed to County Road 12, the posted detour. The Sheriff’s Office said drivers should expect heavier-than-normal traffic there and allow additional travel time.
Festival organizers are also encouraging visitors to arrive in Naples before 11 a.m. if possible. Traffic typically becomes congested as crowds arrive because Main Street serves as the primary route through the village.
Public parking will be available off Lake Niagara Lane on property provided by Hazlitt Red Cat Cellars. Parking costs $5 per vehicle.
Accessible parking will be available in the Naples High School lot off Academy Street on the north side of the school. A valid accessible parking permit is required.
Vendor parking is designated at Naples Elementary School on Academy Street and requires a vendor pass.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking drivers to follow posted detour signs and use additional caution because of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic throughout the weekend.
The Naples Grape Festival is held rain or shine and features arts, food, wine, music and other activities throughout the village. Proceeds from the festival are shared by the Naples Historical Society and Naples Rotary Club.
