An Ithaca man faces four charges after police said he struck a woman and threatened people who intervened with a knife Tuesday evening on Cherry Street.
The Ithaca Police Department said officers responded to the 100 block of Cherry Street at about 5:40 p.m. Sept. 22. Police said the man fled before officers arrived.
Officers found him in the 200 block of Cecil Malone Drive and reported finding a switchblade-style knife when they took him into custody.
Police identified him as Duane Magee, 59, of Ithaca. He was charged with attempted third-degree assault, second-degree menacing and two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to the department. The weapon possession charges are felonies; the other charges are misdemeanors.
Magee was arraigned in Ithaca City Court before Judge Peacock and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail pending his next court appearance, police said. The release did not provide a date for that appearance.
