Wells College has linked its planned gift of a stagecoach and omnibus to Aurora rezoning its former campus for mixed use, according to The Citizen.
President Susan Henking told Mayor Janet Murphy that current zoning complicates the closed college’s effort to sell its 127-acre campus.
The college ended a $12.5 million sale agreement with the Hiawatha Institute for Indigenous Knowledge, which is challenging that decision in state court.
A 2024 agreement called for the vehicles to go to the village, subject to court approval.
Murphy asked Wells to move forward with the gift by Dec. 1, while Henking said the college must sell the campus before seeking approval to give away assets.
