Aurora village trustees will consider temporarily halting fireworks in the village Wednesday night, with a public hearing and possible vote scheduled on a proposed moratorium lasting up to one year.
The Village Board of Trustees will meet at 6 p.m. at the Aurora Firehouse Meeting Room, 456 Main St. The meeting will begin with a public hearing on Local Law No. 2 of 2026, which would establish a fireworks moratorium of up to 12 months.
The documents released by the village don’t detail what prompted the proposed moratorium, what types of fireworks activity would be covered or how village officials intend to use the moratorium period.
Residents will have an opportunity to comment during the hearing. Written comments can also be submitted to the village clerk through 5 p.m. Wednesday by mail, email or hand delivery.
Trustees could act on the proposal the same night.
After the hearing concludes, the board’s regular meeting agenda includes a resolution to adopt Local Law No. 2 and establish the moratorium.
The board also has several other items scheduled for discussion.
Trustees will review budget modifications and bills as part of the treasurer’s report and receive reports from the village historian and code enforcement officer, along with an update from the New York State Conference of Mayors.
Old business includes discussions about village health insurance and updates on grant-funded projects. The agenda doesn’t provide additional details about either item.
The proposed fireworks moratorium is the only item listed under new business.
