Residents affected by the confirmed tornado in Waterloo will have access to a free meal and groceries Saturday as community recovery efforts continue following the severe weather outbreak.
Geneva Christian Fellowship and In His Name Ministry will hold a mobile food distribution from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, behind the Waterloo town offices at 66 Virginia St.
The distribution is being offered to people recently impacted by the storm, which village officials have described as an unprecedented natural disaster.
The Village of Waterloo has been collecting photos, damage estimates and property information from residents as officials pursue a disaster declaration tied to the Sept. 2 storm.
Residents have been asked to submit documentation including the property owner’s information, location of the damage and contact information. Photos and estimates can be texted to 315-651-9017 or delivered to the village office.
Village officials have also been assisting with debris removal, including roadside pickup of trees and brush. Construction debris has not been accepted as part of that cleanup effort.
Officials previously coordinated with Seneca County on a village-wide debris pickup as part of the broader storm response.
The village has encouraged residents who need assistance to contact the village office at 315-539-9131.
Saturday’s food distribution adds another form of support for residents still dealing with the aftermath of the storm.
