Steuben County sealed a time capsule during its America 250 celebration in Bath for an opening on Sept. 17, 2087, according to WETM.
The capsule contains letters from legislators and schoolchildren, along with newspapers documenting life in the county.
The celebration also highlighted founding documents displayed at Pulteney Park, which county officials described as New York’s first Charters of Freedom site.
County Manager Jack Wheeler said the capsule will show future generations how local governments and schools put the nation’s founding principles into practice.
When the capsule opens in 2087, people can add new documents before another opening 100 years later.
